Video Export

Once you’ve created a flythrough using the Bookmarks List, you can export it as an MP4 video by opening the Options Menu and selecting Export.

Export Options

The Video Export Menu

Video/Screenshots Tabs

Switch between exporting your flythrough as a video or as individual screenshots.

Aspect Ratio Tabs

Choose whether to export in Landscape or Portrait mode.

Aspect Ratio Picker

Select from common formats like 16:9 (Widescreen) for videos, 1:1 (Square) for social media, or 9:16 (Portrait) for platforms like TikTok and Instagram Reels.

Show Boundaries

Enable this setting to visualize the export boundaries. A dark overlay will appear over your scene, highlighting what will be included in the final video and what will be cropped.

In the example below, Show Boundaries is enabled for a 9:16 aspect ratio, helping align the composition of bookmarks.

Resolution

Choose from options like 720p or 1080p. Users on the Premium plan can access 4K (2160p) for the highest export quality.

High Quality Toggle

Exports the video at a higher bitrate for better visuals. It’s recommended to keep this on unless you need a smaller file size, which may reduce quality.

Watermark Toggle

Removes the “Made with Mental Canvas” watermark from the video export. This option is available to users on the Pro and Premium plans.

  • YouTube: Landscape, 16:9, 1080p or 2160p.
  • Instagram Post: Square, 1:1, 1080x1080 or Portrait, 2:3, 1080x1620 for the new taller post format.
  • TikTok/Instagram Reels: Portrait, 9:16, 1080x1920.

Saving Your File

Once the export is complete, the iOS share sheet will appear, allowing you to decide where to save or share the video. You can choose to save it to Files, Photos (Save Video), or send it directly to other apps.

Mental Canvas exports videos at 60 frames per second with no compression, so longer videos can be large. If you plan to share via email, consider compressing the file first.

Avoiding Automatic Compression When Saving to Photos

Depending on your iPad settings, choosing Save Video may cause Photos to automatically compress and convert the file to a .mov format, reducing quality. If this happens, you can disable automatic compression in iOS settings.

Open iOS Settings

Scroll to the Mental Canvas settings under the Apps section. Tap Photos to access related settings.
